A cornucopia of beers

Images: www.sinebrychoff.fi/media
Sinebrychoff's autumn selection of new beers is highly diversified. Included are a rye-flavoured Karhu, Nikolai Vuosiolut 2012, Puolukka-Stout and many others resulting from the company's own product development. The new international arrivals include the pride of Denmark Tuborg Green and the Belgian monastery beer Grimbergen Dubbel. The autumn's funniest brewery drinks have been named after Pertti Jarla's Fingerpori comic strip and offer beer and long drinks for Finnish tastes.
Karhu Ruis - a strong Finnish flavour
Karhu Ruis is full-bodied and dark unfiltered lager beer featuring the flavour of Finland's most popular grain. The new beer offers something different, but in an easily approachable way.
A rye finish imparts a sturdiness to the flavour of the unfiltered beer. The bitterness and fullness resulting from dark rye bread can be sensed in the beer's flavour, which is balanced by the refined aftertaste. Karhu Ruis goes excellently with fish, game, sausage and pork dishes. Karhu Ruis 4.6% vol. is sold in grocery stores in 0.5-litre cans. The stronger rye-flavoured Karhu Ruis 6.0% vol. can be obtained in restaurants in 33-cl glass bottles.
A dark and flavourful mild-strength Karhu
Karhu is developing the market for mild malt drinks and is the first to introduce a dark mild-strength beer.
Mid-strength beer is a flavourful mild malt drink that goes excellently with meals, even a midday lunch. Mild malt drinks have plenty of growth possibilities, but until now the selection has been one-sided. Karhu I Tumma (Dark) 2.8% vol. offers something genuinely new, as well as a stronger flavour for mild-strength beers. Karhu I Tumma goes well with many kind of foods, from pizza to fish, from sausages to salty pies. The consumer packages are a 33-cl glass bottle and a 6-bottle multipack.
Sinebrychoff's selection now has two mild-strength beers: Karhu I Tumma and KOFF I, as well as two completely non-alcoholic beers: Nikolai 0.0% and Nikolai Tumma 0.0%.
A happy marriage between lingonberry and stout
At UK pubs, you can get a stout mixed with blackcurrant juice, but the combination of lingonberry and stout is not that common. The blend of velvety roasted stout and the freshness of lingonberries is however balanced and works well.
Sinebrychoff Puolukka-Stout 4.7% vol. is a "darker than dark" top fermented beer. Suiting the entire winter season, it is a special and flavourful domestic beer in which the tangy acidic fruitiness of lingonberries freshens the stout's malty bitterness. The slightly dry mouthfeel enhances the beer's drinkability. The beer can be enjoyed as is and also goes excellently with game dishes and chocolate desserts.
Sinebrychoff continues to develop Finland's beer culture with its domestic special beers that offer genuine alternatives to consumers who like to try something new.
Puolukka-Stout is sold in grocery stores and restaurants in 33-cl glass bottles from early autumn to March.
Stout is a dark top fermented beer that has been manufactured commercially in Ireland since1730. Globally, the best-known stout-type beer is Guinness. Stout is made from the same kinds of malt as porter and in practice means the same thing as porter. Sinebrychoff Porter, Finland's best-known porter internationally, is also a stout-type beer that has been manufactured continuously since 1957.
Nikolai Vuosiolut 2012 is a unfiltered cellar beer
Every year, the Nikolai Vuosiolut (Annual Beer) series introduces a new and interesting domestic premium beer that is sold for one year. The second in the series is Nikolai Vuosiolut 2012.
The naturally cloudy and unfiltered Vuosiolut 2012 is fresh and full-bodied premium beer. Its flavour is topped off by traditional German Perle aromatic hops that impart a generous flowery spiciness that balances the flavour. The beer has countless prototypes and predecessors, including the German Kellerbier and Zwickelbier beers that are particularly popular in Bavaria.
Nikolai Vuosiolut 2012 elegantly compliments the flavours of fish and shellfish dishes. It is also an excellent companion with meat, sausage, and cheese dishes. Beginning in early autumn, the beer's 4.5% vol. version will be available in grocery stores in 50-cl cans. At Alko shops and in restaurants, the 5.0% vol. version will be sold in 33-cl glass bottles.
The brewmaster recommends: Nikolai Premium Pils with grilled foods
Nikolai Premium Pils 5.0% vol. will already be on sale in Alko shops and restaurants in early July. It is full-bodied light beer with a slightly stronger hopping than conventional lagers. The hops' fresh bitterness also makes Premium Pils a good choice with meals; it goes excellently with the flavours of fried or grilled meats and fish.
Tuborg Green - liquid soundtrack
Studies show that young adults often perceive beer brands and their marketing as traditional, masculine, and somewhat middle-aged*. Tuborg Green does not fit this categorisation; it is seen where young adults socialise.
Sold in over 80 countries, Tuborg Green is the Carlsberg Group's second largest international premium beer. Tuborg Green and the lime-flavoured Tuborg Lime Cut beer are available in Finland.
Tuborg Green is the official beer of several European music festivals and the main sponsor of, among others, Denmark's Roskilde and Great Britain's Download festivals. Tuborg Green can also be seen in international artists' music videos, for example Travie McCoy: "Billionaire", Keane Featuring K'Naan: "Stop For a Minute" and Black Eyed Peas: "Imma Be Rocking That Body".
The fresh and mildly hopped lager beer is sold in packages suiting different use situations. The profile glass bottle's special innovation is a handy pull-off cap, and the 6-bottle multipack open at the top is easy to carry. The selection also includes a 50-cl can as well as multipacks holding 15 or 6 small cans.

The monastery beer Grimbergen Dubbel warms
From early autumn to the end of March, Sinebrychoff's House of Beer selection will be augmented by Grimbergen Dubbel, a Belgian monastery-type beer. The strong 6.5% ale beer is sold in 30-litre kegs, and it can be tasted in approximately 150 beer restaurants.
Sinebrychoff provides beer restaurants with interesting seasonal draught beers from Finland and the rest of the world. The beers are launched at approximately 6-month intervals in September and April. The draught beer for the winter season of 2011-2012 is the monastery-type beer Grimbergen Dubbel.
The dark and warming Grimbergen Dubbel beer features a deliciously sweet toffee taste, and raisins, orange, and cinnamon can be sensed in its aroma. The beer is superb as is, and goes excellently with, for example, meat dishes and cured cheeses.
The popularity of ale beers is growing in Finland, and currently there is a demand for monastery beers. For example, the sales volumes of the Leffe product family included in Sinebrychoff's House of Beer selection grew last year by almost 20%.
Founded in 1128, the famous Grimbergen monastery is located in a village of the same name in what is nowadays a suburban area of Brussels. The monastery was destroyed several times in wars, but it has always been rebuilt. To depict the monastery's rise from the ashes, the monks adopted the symbol of the phoenix bird to adorn the labels of the beer they were brewing. To this day, Grimbergen's long beer traditions continue to play an important role in the village, the monastery, and the lives of its monks.
The autumn's funniest brewery drinks
The products bearing the name of Pertti Jarla's Fingerpori comic strip provide beer and long drinks suiting Finnish tastes.
Fingerpori Bisse is Finnish lager beer at its best. For its part, Fingerpori Lonkku is a domestic grapefruit long drink whose chilly freshness is well-aimed strike at Finnish taste buds. The Fingerpori comic strip's individual characters and their blunt remarks amuse on the bottles' labels. Both products are sold in multipacks holding six 33-cl bottles. The Fingerpori products will be found in well-stocked grocery stores beginning 22 August.
Pertti Jarla's Fingerpori is one of Finland's most popular comic strips. Fingerpori was published for the first time on the comic strip pages of the Helsingin Sanomat on 5 February 2007. Nowadays Fingerpori can be followed in approximately 20 other Finnish newspapers. Jarla is a self-taught comics artist whose humour has been studied as appealing particularly to 25-44-year-old men (Comic strip survey TNS-Gallup 4-2011). Fingerpori's entire comic strip production can be found at the address www.hs.fi/fingerpori.
